The Google Sitemap Protocol - get one for your web site right here
The Google Sitemap Protocol (GSP) allows you to inform the Google search engine crawler about the pages on your web site that are available for crawling. A Sitemap consists of a list of URLs, and may also contain additional information about those URLs, such as the time and date they were last modified, how frequently they change, their relative priority, and their exact location.

Google Sitemap support for BlogCFC - While this isn't in the core BlogCFC install yet, I thought I'd share the code in case others wanted to do it. Right now I've just created a new CFM and dropped the code in there. I will most likely move the generation to a CFC method later on. Also note that I was unable to get the sitemap to verify until I "tricked" google. My file name was, let's say, sitemap.cfm. This refused to validate. I saved the output of my file as test.xml, and that validated immidiately. I hunted around and found a few people who asked if the extension would cause problems for Google. On a whim, I resubmitted by sitemap with this url: http://ray.camdenfamily.com/sitemap.cfm?ext=xml. (Not the real URL.) This was enough to "fool" Google and allow my sitemap to validate. Just created my first Google sitemap for the Chris Brauer Media Project. You can see it by visiting this .xml page . Google lists the advantages of creating a sitemap as: 1)-You want Google to crawl more of your web pages. 2)- You want to be able to tell Google when content on your site changes.

Understanding the Google SiteMap Protocol - First of all, Google's SiteMap service does not replace the established crawling procedure. They euphemistically tell people to Run the program on your webserver. Google Sitemap Generator Script - Google has introduced a new feature called "Sitemap" that allows a webmaster to not only submit a site for indexing but also to include some extra bits of info that help Google better index your site. These extra bits are frequency of page change, priority of page in relation to rest of the website (Nothing to do with page ranking), and last modification date. With these extra bits Google can schedule the indexing of your site to be more current with how your website changes. Progress of Google sitemap on June 16th - My sitemap was read by Google successfully. The googleBot dropped by my site for a couple of times already. It doesn't seem anything is changing. Everything stay the same. No improvement at all.

Google Sitemap - Dave’s Ramblings - Found something interesting today, now we’ll see what it really does. In it’s most basic form it’s an RSS feed for Google to crawl, only you no longer have to wait for Google to hit a link to your blog, page, or whole site each time you make an update, instead you feed Google directly with an XML feed. I’d guess it should get your pages crawled and indexed faster. The terms of service call for not more often than once per hour to push the feed. I’ve got this blog and the CaptiveReefing forums set up to push a feed every two hours, just set up a simple cron job with a wget… we’ll see what if anything really comes if it.
