I have used iSpring for almost all of my website. Since I purchased a budget web hosting package from GoDaddy, I am limited to 5 pages. Rather than paying through the nose for extra pages I decided to build flash presentations for each of the main pages. Since I have no skills in this area I used PowerPoint to build a set of linked pages with some animations, then convert them to flash with iSpring Pro. There is a free version with very limited features (good for simple banners) though the pro version gives you much more. iSpring is a Powerpoint plugin which installs as a toolbar.

The list price for iSpring Pro is quite a lot, however a nicely worded email to the sales department got me a reduction to $99. Not free, but very powerful for someone who doesn't have time to learn flash.

I am a happy user able to update my pages with nothing more than a good understanding of PowerPoint :o)

Feedback appreciated...

Klynton, I would suggest OpenOffice Impress, or its inspiration, MS PowerPoint (2007 or later). Both are great for creating slideshows and they can be saved as Flash files.

I've also used Swish and SwishMax for more complicated stuff, like an entire Flash website. I prefer Swish, its easier, but a legacy product and no longer available.

Very good overview! This provides value over what google alone would turn up.

It might be worth mentioning Haxe, for those with an inclination for programming. For those times one needs to dive down into actionscript coding, but can't use the usual Flash development app (e.g. running on Linux) - Haxe is great. http://www.haxe.org/

Very nice! I am not a fan of these "lists" - if I wanted just a list of stuff, I could just easily ask GOOGLE :) but this is quite a bit more - a list of items with some additional information as price and open source status (always helpful) it would be nice if the author played with some of these items and gave some feedback?

I'm on the fence about using flash more extensively in my sites. I hate to have to redevelop for devices that dont support flash - or dont go past flash 7, still, that argument could be made in another way about Javascript too

try "Wix.com". good for websites, myspace profiles, applications, etc. it's a webtop platform but works just as well as any of these software packages. probably much easier to master as well!
