This comment is sometimes heard from coders who are going to college for their degree in programming, “I sit in class and I know more than the teacher.”
Another comment is that the students taking the courses are already working as professional web designers, while the teacher is just teaching.
This presents an interesting question: Do web designers have to go to school in order to get jobs in the real world?
Some jobs are available to web designers based entirely on what their experience is. Some companies like to see a degree, but those who are self-employed are not usually asked for their educational credentials by potential clients.
A degree in web design does help though.Good graphic design schools and colleges teach the latest methods and techniques related to web design and how to implement them on servers.
Some people can definitely be self-taught, but this doesn’t mean that most people can take this option.
A degree also gives you a safeguard in applying for different positions outside of web design.
Hiring companies can sometimes be very specific about their qualifications and a bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement for some jobs.
The world of web design is constantly changing, and a good education can qualify you for jobs that have specific skill sets, and career training.
Certificates, associate’s degrees, and bachelor’s degrees are available from a number of learning institutions; from traditional colleges, to junior colleges, to online centers of learning.
So the answer to the question is yes and no. But getting a good education may result in getting more yeses when looking for a job.

True having an education is extremely beneficial, at uni there are so many modules for example media technology, i was interested in web design however there was never a module focused on that, my course focused on media and the technology as a whole. so i took bits from that and learned web design myself…in the long run it was good i guess, because i land myself a job as a web designer
My website is prepared by people just out of their college and I don’t think anyone out there would find this out.I have such people who are ‘fresh’ on their concepts part and their output is proudly international.
I don’t think that the real thing is the teacher or the student, the real thing is that how much knowledge the person has about the subject.
It can actually be just self learned, lots of resources online that will serve as guides so it’s not really important to have a degree.
I would recommend both. A degree is important if you want a job in the corporate world. If yourself employed experience is king.
